Team Management
The Teams section is the organizational core of Jira Capacity Planner. This is where user groups are defined, assigned a theoretical workload, and linked to specific calendars and projects. A correct definition of teams is vital for capacity planning to be a true reflection of your organization's reality.
To get started, navigate to Administration > Manage apps > Capacity Planner > Team Management.

Creating a New Team
The creation of a team, linking to projects, and assigning its members are all done in a single modal to streamline the configuration process.
When you click Create Team, a unified modal will appear with three main areas to configure:

1. Basic Information and Scope
- Team Name: A unique and descriptive identifier, such as
Frontend Development TeamorTier 2 Support. - Description: Add optional text to clarify the team's scope.
- Holiday Calendar: Select the holiday calendar that applies to this team from the list.
- Team Type: Determines the team's visibility in the planner.
Global: The team will be visible in all enabled projects. Ideal for cross-functional teams likeHuman Resources.Project: The team will be visible only in the Jira projects you select in this same modal.
2. Member Assignment and Dedication
In the same creation window, you will find the section to build the team:
- Add Members: Use the search bar to find and select the Jira users who will be part of the team.
- Define Dedication (Allocation %): For each added member, assign the percentage of their time they will dedicate to this team's tasks. For example, if the workday is 8 hours, a
50%dedication is equivalent to 4 hours of daily availability for this team.

As you add members, the system protects against overallocating a person's total capacity.
- A user's total dedication cannot exceed 100% across all the teams they belong to.
- When trying to add a user, the system will inform you if they have available capacity.
- If a user already has 100% of their capacity allocated, they cannot be added to any other team until their dedication in other teams is modified.
3. Save the Team
Once you have completed the name, selected the type, associated projects (if applicable), and added the members with their corresponding dedication, click Save Team.
The team will be created with all its configuration and members in a single operation, ensuring that planning remains realistic and preventing employee overload from the very beginning.
